Melissa & Doug Double-Sided Tabletop Easel Review

Recently we were sent the Melissa & Doug Double-Sided Tabletop Easel from Hello Baby Direct in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Features of the Melissa & Doug Double-Sided Tabletop Easel

The Melissa & Doug tabletop easel is double sided, with a magnetic whiteboard on one side and a chalkboard on the other.

There’s a paper roll holder on the top with a 50 foot long paper roll included in the set. It also has a stand attached with a tray and spaces for your art supplies.

There are 36 magnetic letters and numbers included which can be used on the whiteboard side.

It also comes with a packet of coloured chalks, an eraser and a wipeable pen.

The whole thing folds flat so it’s really easy to pack away and convenient to store after use.

What we thought of the easel

My first impression of the easel was that it’s really sturdy. Which is obviously a good thing when it’s being used by a boisterous little one! The frame is a mixture of wood and plastic and feels like it can withstand a lot of use.

I left it out for Ollie to find when he got home from nursery and he couldn’t wait to try it out. He went straight for the magnets, and once he’d stuck them onto the board he used the pen to copy the numbers. The eraser is the perfect size for little hands so he had no trouble cleaning the board to start all over again.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to using the easel. Painting, drawing, pictionary, number recognition activities, reading and writing practice. We’ve already used it to play maths games, practice writing Ollie’s name and make some artwork. I like having a wipeable board to do activities on as it means we’re not constantly wasting paper when doing repetitive activities like sums or writing practice.

I love the fact that it can be used 3 different ways – chalkboard, whiteboard and with paper to draw or paint on. We normally paint at the table and Ollie ends up getting paint everywhere. The attached paper roll gives you a good area to work on, and when you’re finished you just cut it off and pull some more down next time you want to paint. I did find the paper was moving around a little bit when he was painting so I attached the bottom to the whiteboard with a little blu-tac and it worked perfectly!

The fact it comes with chalk, wipeable pen and an eraser means you have everything you need to get creative straight away. The magnets are a great addition too.

We have a lot of Melissa & Doug products and I’ve always found them to be good quality and long lasting.

Overall we are impressed by the Melissa & Doug tabeltop easel. It’s good quality, sturdy, the perfect size for little ones and I can see it being used for years to come!
