This week I’ve been mostly housebound with my toddler due to snow. It was fun at first but we’ve both started to get a bit of cabin fever, and there’s only so much CBeebies a person can watch. So I’ve come up with a few ways to keep us entertained today as my stepson has a snowday too.
Totally Free Ways To Spend Your Family Snow Day:
Get Creative With The Snow
Have a snowman building competition, make snow angels or even paint the snow! Earlier this week we got creative will some calpol syringes, old shampoo bottles and food colouring. We made colourful patterns in the snow and my little one practised recognising some letters.
Do Something Charitable
While the snow might be fun for some of us, it can cause big problems for others. There are thousands of people living on the streets and I can’t even imagine what it’s like being out there in these temperatures. Animal shelters are struggling to keep their animals warm and food banks need donations. Even if you can get out to help, you could still raid the cupboards and put together a few things to donate when you can. I think it’s a great way to teach kids to think of others.
Write A Family Bucket List
If you’ve been stuck inside for a few days you might be getting cabin fever like me! Why not sit down together and plan out all the things you want to do over the year as a family? It’s nice to see what the kids really want to do and it will give you all something to look forward to and plan for.
Have A Snowball Fight
Simple, fun and totally free!
Have A Movie Marathon
When it’s freezing outside, there’s nothing better than snuggling up under a blanket with some hot chocolate and a few feel good family films.
Do Some Baking
Both the kids love baking and its an easy way to keep them entertained for an hour or two. Even if the cupboards are a bit bare, there’s normally something we can make pretty easily. I love the BBC Good Food website, it even has a section just for kids baking and you can search for recipes by ingredient.
Play Board Games
We have a cupboard FULL of board games but never seem to find the time to play them. As we are all home together today it’s the perfect time to play a few and have some screen free family time.
Go For A Walk In The Snow
If you need to get it of the house and it’s not too icy, get wrapped up warm and head out for a wintery walk. If nothing else it’s a good way to tire the kids out!
