It’s easy to do and you can schedule in visits to fit around your everyday life.
Since I started I’ve had so many free products and meals, plus earned a little bit of extra cash. Most mystery shops are quick and easy to complete. You’ll be provided with a full brief which you need to follow carefully, then complete a report afterwards detailing your experience.
I’m registered as a Mystery Shopper with several UK companies:
My favourite company is without a doubt Market Force. Their assignments are updated so regularly, I usually do at least 1 a week. They also have an app which means it’s really easy to apply for assignments and complete your reports afterwards. They pay twice a month directly into your bank account. They also have an app called Eyes:On which lets you find and apply for assignments. You can also complete your report via the app which is very quick and easy!
Mystery Shoppers Limited
I’ve done a few assignments with Mystery Shoppers Limited and found them really good to work with. They pay any time up to 30 days after you complete your assignment. Most of the time you’ll be given a fake scenario which you have to act out, rather than completing a normal shopping experience. For example, you might have to go to a DIY shop and get a quote for a new bathroom, or contact a venue to enquire about booking a party. The reports are fairly easy to complete but the website isn’t that phone friendly!
Red WigWam email me almost daily with different jobs. Not only do they do mystery shopping, but there are also other jobs available. They offer roles like talking to shoppers, restocking shelves or checking products are laid out correctly.
If you’re after free food or drink, this is a good company to register with. Most of the time, the free meal is your compensation, so you won’t be paid any cash on top. They have assignments for meals, and ones for drinks only, so it’s a great way to get a free night out! Their application process is a bit more thorough than other companies. You’ll be asked to write a review of somewhere you visited recently to see how you would complete your reports. Remember they’re looking for a clear, easy to understand report with good attention to detail!
Things you need to know:
- You shouldn’t have to pay a fee to register as a mystery shopper – if they ask for one it’s likely to be a scam
- Don’t give details about your shops! The word mystery is in the title, so don’t go sharing details on social media or elsewhere or you may not be invited to do any more!
- Be aware you may have to pay some money out during your shop. Often you will be required to purchase a product/service and will be reimbursed later. Always check the assignment fee and reimbursement before you accept.
- Companies are relying on you to give feedback about their business. So be observant and most of all honest about your experience!
