I’ve seen a lot online lately about how many people get in debt buying Christmas presents. I know it can be tempting to stick it all in a credit card and worry about it in the new year, but it’s just so not worth it! Especially when there are so many ways to make it cheaper!

Here’s how I bought £298.97 worth of presents for £85.25….that’s a massive saving of £213.72!!!

Wellies: £17 – paid £14.45
I LOVE Jojo Maman Bebe, but their products can be pretty pricey. They do a Xmas shopping event each year, which you receive an invite to if you’re registered with them. You swap your invite in store for a scratch card which gives you a surprise discount. I got 15% which was a bonus as I was going to buy the wellies anyway.

Nerf Gun: £59.99 – paid £10 cash + £18 Clubcard vouchers
I’ve been looking out for this for a while as my partner’s son requested it for Xmas. It was £59.99 in Argos but I found it for £28 in Tesco. I used £18 of Clubcard vouchers so only paid £10 cash. This is a great example of where shopping around makes a huge difference! Use Google’s shopping comparison or MySupermarket and don’t buy products in the first place you find them!

Dorothy Perkins clothes: £44 – paid £27
I knew I wanted a few presents from DP so I waited until they had 25% off making them £33 rather than £44. I then bought a £20 giftcard from Zeek for only £14. Zeek sells unwanted giftcards for a discount and electronic ones can be used straight away so it’s a super easy way to get money off your online shopping.

Fifa 17: £41.99 – paid £1.99 cash + £20 Nectar points
I used Nectar Double Up to swap £20 worth of vouchers for £40 so only paid £1.99 cash!

Photo mug: £7.99 – paid £2.99
I used an online promo code to get a £7.99 photo mug free and only paid £2.99 postage!

Selection boxes – £2 – FREE plus £2 cashback on top
ClickSnap was offering £2 cashback when you bought a Cadbury Selection box. They were on offer at Tesco for £1 so I actually got paid an extra £1 on top of my freebie. I got another one by using my partner’s account.

Children’s Books  – £15 – paid £0
I bought a load of kid’s books from Amazon using gift cards I’d earnt answering surveys with Swagbucks. Delivery is free if you spend over £10 on books so I didn’t spend a penny!

Virgin Experience Vouchers – £111 – paid £30.82
This is one of my best buys this year. I bought 2 experience vouchers – one was reduced from £72 to £24, the other was £39 (full price) but came to £30.03 with a 23% off code I found online.
I then referred my boyfriend to Zeek, meaning we both earned £5 credit. He bought a £25 voucher for £17. I already had £10 credit in my account so I managed to buy a £25 voucher for £7.30!!!

My top tips for Xmas shopping:

  • Shop around and don’t buy anything at the first place you find it
  • If shopping online, always check if you can get cashback through a site like Quidco or TopCashback
  • Search for voucher codes online to get a discount
  • Buy discounted giftcards from Zeek for an extra saving – get £5 to spend when you sign up with my link.
  • Check out my post on how to survive Christmas on a budget
  • DON’T GO OVERBOARD! Chances are your toddler will enjoy playing with wrapping paper and boxes more than the gifts anyway, so save yourself the debt and cut back this year
